Rep. Ed Emery's hearing on a charge of failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, originally scheduled for today in Lawrence County Circuit Court, has been postponed, according to court records. The hearing has apparently not been rescheduled at the present time.
Court files indicate the motion for a continuance was filed by Emery's former colleague in the Missouri House of Representatives, Senator Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, March 20. Goodman asked for the delay because Emery was scheduled to be in Jefferson City today for a House session.
The charges were filed following a 2:20 p.m. Feb 3 accident on Highway 96 two miles south of Miller. Emery and a woman in the other car suffered minor injuries, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol report.

Randy, I am amazed that a man whose campaign signs boasted Emery to be a vote in the Right direction, is charged for failure to drive on the Right side of the road. What is his excuse for crossing over?
I also find it disappointing that a man who preaches good character and responsibility would delay justice because of his position and or job. Is his job more important than anyone else in his district, would you or I be able to tell the court we are too busy or important to go by the courts schedule?
Please continue to follow this story because I am very interested to see how he handles this charge.

Gosh, Jack. Ever think that maybe, just maybe he's innocent until proven guilty?
Court dates get pushed back regularly even for little people. Emery would be best served to get this over instead of dragging it out. As far as being innocent until proven guilty, when has that honestly ever been the case? It's the great American hoax. Public perception is the arbiter of guilt or innocence. He's a politician accused of wrongdoing, therefore he's automatically guilty until proven otherwise, it goes with the job. If he wanted to be found innocent by the public, he should think about becoming a nun, although they're becoming increasingly more unpopular too.

Besides if my recall of the accident report is correct the other two vehicles he hit were not charged of anything. You suppose the highway patrol make a habit of charging State Representatives with an accident if there is a chance that someone else could be guilty?
You apparently are not familiar with politics and privilages afforded people in positions of power.
I am sorry if I have offended you Mrs. Emery but why didn't he appear in court on his date set, he could have gone to court and shown up late for work at Jeff City like you and I would of had to do.
