CNHI bidding for Pennsylvania newspaper

Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., (CNHI) the newspaper company that owns the Joplin Globe, has expressed an interest in buying the Wilkes-Barre Times-Leader in Pennsylvania, according to an article in that newspaper. The newspaper is one of eight former Knight-Ridder publications that were purchased recently by McClatchy Newspapers, but are being sold because they do not fit into that company's plans.
The Times-Leader article speculates that CNHI may be working a deal to buy more than just the Wilkes-Barre newspaper.
The article comes only a few days after it was announced that Alabama-based CNHI was buying the Muskogee, Okla. Phoenix.
