Hearing set in Springfield NAACP dispute

Arthur Hodge's battle to gain the presidency of the Springfield NAACP chapter will continue during a 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, hearing in the Missouri Southern District Court of Appeals in Springfield.
Hodge was elected chapter president in December 2004, but the election was invalidated by the state and national NAACP because votes were not cast secretly as required by the organization's bylaws.
When a second election was held, the man Hodge defeated, Rev. Larry Maddox, was returned to the post.
When Hodge took the case to Greene County Circuit Court, the judge ruled that he had no jurisdiction over the election. Hodge is appealing that decision.
