Missouri's U. S. Senators, Kit Bond and Jim Talent were among the 46 senators who voted against a graduated increase in the federal minimum wage today.
The amendment, proposed by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, provided for an increase in the minimum wage from its current $5.15 to $5.85 two months after the legislation was enacted, $6.55 one year later, and $7.25 the following year.
The final vote was 52 to 46 in favor of the amendment, but it needed 60 votes to pass.

Maybe if Congress were paid minimum wage, they would get an immediate increase passed.

Minimum wage is about what they're worth. They don't do much of anything worthwhile when they're not busy networking with lobbyists and junketing. The current level of corruption in Washington D.C. during the reign of the republicans is unbelieveable.

They shouldn't be getting paid at all, since they do little if anything that the voters would have them do, and do quite a lot that the voters would NOT have them do.
It is inexcusable that they did this to the American worker. Please remember them at the next election and put them in the unemployment line. After they did nothing and let their 2% Cost of Living increase kick in, $3300.00 or so more per year, how could they have the nerve to spit on the minimum wage worker. They did it though and seem proud of their move. I'm sure they are working on another tax break for the wealthy, while they are working on cutting another program for the less fortunate.
