Hunter money goes toward leading voucher proponent

Representative Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, did not receive any campaign contributions during the last three months, according to the quarterly disclosure report filed today with the Missouri Ethics Commission.
Hunter started the three-month period with $3,096.61 in his account and spent $1,994.40, leaving him with $1,102.21, according to the report.
Hunter's expenditures included $375 for registration to a meeting of ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), an organization which has been a leading proponent of school vouchers. ALEC is one of those organizations that believes in strict monitoring of public schools (which is fine with me, it is the taxpayers' money we are talking about), but also believes in giving money to private schools with no accountability whatsoever (which is not fine with me.)
In addition to the ALEC expenditure, Hunter's campaign also paid $192 for an unspecified leadership meeting, $300 to Americans for Brad Roark, $100 to Rodney Hubbard for State Representative, $100 to Friends to Elect Ted Hoskins, and $650 to Friends for Bob Behnen.
Oddly enough, Hunter's campaign donors also ended up footing the bill for a $60 donation to a candidate for the Galena, Kan., Fire Department Queen Contest.
Hunter's general election opponent, Democrat Steve Daniels, has not yet filed his report.
