Sentencing delayed for former Carthage R-9 board member

The sentencing for former Carthage R-9 Board of Education member Michael Lloyd Wells on deviate sexual assault charges, originally scheduled for Friday in Jasper County Circuit Court, has been postponed until 8:30 a.m. Aug. 4, according to court records.
Wells pleaded guilty May 12, three days before he was scheduled to go to trial. Under a plea agreement, his charges were reduced from forcible rape, sexual assault, and two counts of incest to deviate sexual assault, a Class C felony. The crime took place Sept 1, 1994, and April 1, 2001, according to court records.
At one time, Wells was a Carthage police officer.
