Where were the Joplin newspapers?

The problem of illegal immigration is one of the great issues facing this country and a hearing on the subject was held Thursday at Missouri Southern State University.
A commission headed by Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, held a hearing to determine the extent of the problem in southwest Missouri. It was the most recent in a series of such meetings across the state.
I saw no coverage of the meeting in either the Globe or the Joplin Daily. The ones who did come through for this area were our local television stations. KODE, KOAM, and KSNF all offered coverage of the meeting.
Undoubtedly, the meetings being held by this commission are going to lead to some sort of legislation next year to deal with the illegal immigration situation. Therefore, the coverage provided by local television was much appreciated. This kind of issue, however, is one that cries for the kind of in-depth examination that local television usually does not have the time to provide. This is where newspapers have a clear advantage. Unfortunately, at least in this case, our local newspapers chose not to use it.

The Joplin Daily put out another putrid edition on Sunday. Am I the only one who is noticing that the quality of their papers has gone to Hell in a handbasket?

yes

I sure as heck have noticed. The Daily is DULL, DULL, DULL. And, there are a ton of mistakes to boot.

Sounds like the daily rat is speaking from experience. I wonder if some of his/her stories are filling up the handbasket.

I don't know about anybody else, but I find the Daily helpful. In my 20+ years on Joplin, I had no idea there were public swimming pools.
And national parks in Arkansas? They blow me away.
I've heard of this new street in Joplin they should write about - Rangeline.

All Joplin, All The Time - Destination: Northwest Arkansas!

Yeah, thank God the daily's crack staff was on top of things when they told us about Northwest Arkansas (laughed out loud when this piece of fluff "story" was listed under the header - "All Joplin, All the Time." Laughable. This immigrant story could have easily filled that slot, and this idiotic fluff pieces about Arkansas and public pools could have been more easily slipped to Page 4.
