Barton County landfill meeting set for Sept. 5

Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public session 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Mindenmines City Hall to explain the permitting process for landfills, according to a news release.
Representatives from DNR's Solid Waste Management Program, Division of Geology and Land Survey, and Southwest Regional Office will be available to answer questions.
The hearing is in connection with an application from Environmental Recovery Group LLC, which is headed by Barton County Associate Commissioner Dennis Wilson to build a Mindenmines Regional Waste Facility sanitary landfill.
According to the news release, the proposed landfill would be used to receive non-hazardous municipal solid waste. The site is an inactive coal strip mine area about a mile and a half northwest of Mindenmines. The area planned for the landfill covers about 193 acres, the news release said.
Questions and comments regarding the proposed landfill may be sent to the Missouri
Department of Natural Resources' Solid Waste Management Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176 or phone Rod Ellis at 1-800-361-4827 or (573) 751-5401.
