Continuance denied in Simmons manslaughter case

It looks like the involuntary manslaughter trial for Cory Simmons, 18, Joplin, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, in McDonald County Circuit Court, following Judge Tim Perigo's decision today to deny a continuance requested defense attorney Darryl Gardner.
Simmons is charged in connection with the Feb. 11 traffic accident in which his passenger, Joplin High School student athlete Christina Freeman, was killed. Joplin police say Simmons was driving while intoxicated.
The trial is being held in McDonald County on a change of venue from Newton County.
