Apparently, the editors at the Joplin Globe are still under the impression that it is unusual for a woman to run for an office.
In today's page five story on Joplin social worker Kim Wright's candidacy for 32nd District State Senate, the headline reads, "Woman certified as candidate."
I can almost guarantee you that if Kim Wright had been Ken Wright, that headline would have read "Wright certified as candidate."
For those of you who are ready to jump all over this post because of the fact that Ms. Wright is running against Gary Nodler, forget about it. Gary Nodler has nothing to do with this. This is about a newspaper that can't seem to move from the 19th century to the 21st century when it comes to women.
In this day and age, thankfully, it is not news when a woman runs for public office. Maybe some day, Globe editors will catch up to the rest of us and realize that.

Good thing she wasn't black. They would have been forced to use smaller font to fit "Negro Woman Certified...."
Maybe they got the headline from Nodler. I swear in the past that he has fed them information to print. When they claimed that the Medicaid Cut were bipartisan, I can just visualize him saying that. At least they ran a correction after we peppered them with e-mails.
