Audit: State never checked to see if Dupont was illegally receiving funds

Anderson Guest House owner Robert Dupont is on a federal list of people who are not to receive Medicare or Medicaid funding, but his facility still received more than $62,000 this year, according to an Associated Press article:

In a just-released audit, State Auditor Claire McCaskill says state officials never bothered to check to make sure that no one from the excluded list was receiving funds. State and federal officials say there is no problem since it was not Dupont but the Joplin River of Life Ministries that received the funds:

State Auditor Claire McCaskill said in an audit released Tuesday that the department had not reviewed Missouri's residential care facilities to determine whether the homes or their officials are barred from participating in the federal Medicaid program.
A state health department spokeswoman had no immediate comment about the audit.

The AP article also gives information about the first lawsuit filed in connection with the fatal fire.
