GateHouse continues spending spree

GateHouse Media, owner of the Carthage Press, Joplin Daily, Neosho Daily News, Big Nickel, and hundreds of other publications, continued its recent spending spree this week, buying two daily newspapers, two weeklies, and two foreign language publications in Massachusetts.

Once the deal with the Journal Register Co. is completed, GateHouse's newspapers will stretch from the North Shore to the Rhode Island border to Boston's western exurbs, underscoring the emergence of the Fairport, N.Y., firm as one of the biggest players in the state's newspaper industry.
