Maybe Dupont should have remained silent

After reading the Joplin Globe's interview with Anderson Guest House owner Robert Dupont, I can see why he has limited his dealings with the media.
In one portion of veteran reporter Andy Ostmeyer's interview, Dupont does not help his case at all:

Asked about his role and salary with Joplin River of Life Ministries, Dupont said he was "employed up until this week. My probation officer told me it would be a good time to take a leave of absence." Asked again about his role, he said: "I helped with the total operation. I might be assistant director. I assisted my wife is what I did."

Is there some reason that comedian Jon Lovitz' line, "Yeah, that's the ticket," comes to mind?
