Supreme Court sets Feb. 15 hearing in Jasper County capital punishment case

The Supreme Court appeal for convicted killer Gary Black is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17.
Black has been convicted twice in connection with the racially-motivated October 1998 murder of Missouri Southern student athlete Jason Johnson. Black was on death row when the Missouri Supreme Court granted his motion for a new trial. The results were the same with a second Jasper County jury finding him guilty and sentencing him to death.
More information about the case can be found in the Sept. 22, 2005, Turner Report.
