If it affects Joplin, it's news to the Globe

Two days ago at 2:22 p.m. (it says 12:22 at the bottom of the post, but all of my posts are two hours off), The Turner Report noted that Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, had been named the new Senate Budget Committee chairman.

I was not the first to reveal this information. As far as I can tell, the always vigilant Jason Rosenbaum at the Columbia Tribune had the story first, posting it a half hour earlier and was the basis for The Turner Report post.

Carthage Press Editor Buzz Ball was right on the spot, delivering a full story, complete with quotes on Nodler's new position in the Thursday Press.

Even though Nodler is this area's state senator, the region's "leading" newspaper, the Joplin Globe, did not have anything about Nodler's position until a brief posting at 9:15 a.m. today. Apparently, the full story will not be offered to Globe readers until the Saturday print and internet editions- three days after the story broke.

It's not that I want to lecture the Globe about the importance of this news (though actually I kind of enjoy lecturing the Globe), but this is a powerful position and the elevation of Nodler to the job is important to Globe readers.

It's also news. Is anyone at the Globe paying attention?
