Chris Koster, the newly-minted Democrat, who depending on who you are listening to is either planning a run for attorney general or lieutenant governor, was given a warm reception during a party function at Warrensburg Saturday, according to the Show Me Progress blog.
The post, written by 31st District Democratic Committee Chairman Michael Bersin, indicates Koster's reasons for leaving the GOP resonated with the Johnson County Democratic Club:
We had a decent size crowd of 50 to 60 people - for a very hot Saturday afternoon in August. Senator Koster made the rounds visiting with groups of individuals sitting at tables. Gary Grigsby, president of the Democratic club introduced office holders who were in attendance.
Koster was introduced to the crowd by Gary Grigsby. He spoke at length on the reasons for his change to the Democratic Party - focusing on continuing republican opposition to stem cell research. He also made reference to his belief in collective bargaining - there were various labor members in attendance.
After his remarks there was an in depth discussion of the Missouri non-partisan court plan. Several members of the bar in attendance contributed to the discussion, as did Senator Koster. I spoke of the exchange of letters between Chief Justice Stith and the Blunt administration.
The crowd responded positively to Chris Koster. People asked him questions and seemed genuinely pleased that he was there and responsive.
The post continued:
Koster stated "republican moderates are all but extinct" and that his decision was "a break with the party that has gone too far to the right."
In the two public events I have attended I have been impressed by Senator Koster. I believe he is sincere in his reasons for leaving the republican party. I am very much aware of his considerable political talents - especially in reaching out to individuals. He should not be underestimated nor should his change in party affiliation be reduced just to the current circulating republican sound bite "political opportunism".

This should not be reduced to "political opportunism"? This guy is sincere? Haha. Hey, I have a bridge to sell you if you really believe that. Why don't ask the hundreds of thousands of people who were kicked off Medicare if they think this guy is a sincere Democrat. I have a feeling they will pipe a different tune. Maybe you can ask the thousands of senior citizens and college students who could be affected by the voter id law what they think about Koster. Or, better yet, ask Mr. Koster where his principles were when he carried Blunt's water for the past legislative session. While I am always happy to have a new Democrat in the Missouri Senate, I am shocked to see people actually think he switched for nothing more than "political opportunism." This guy realized he was going to lose to Hannaway and he decided to jump ship, plain and simple. If he were a true Democrat or a principled man he would sit this election year out and earn his stripes.
Democrats should not support Flopster. He flopped parties, flopped races, his health care vote, and his views on abortion.
He even took a picture of him cozying up to Dick Cheney off his website. Look for Flopster to flop about the foundation formula, MOHELA and voted id in the coming weeks.
