Commenters on this blog have been mentioning it for weeks, but it took until now for me to find information confirming that GateHouse Media now owns the weekly Aurora Advertiser.

The article indicates the sale was finalized on Sept. 1.
GateHouse Media owns The Carthage Press, Neosho Daily News, Big Nickel, Greenfield Vedette, and Neosho Post in southwest Missouri, in addition to the Advertiser.

Great job of investigative reporting Randy. The announcement was only on the front page of the Aurora Advertiser the first week of September. Your investigative skills continue to amaze us all.
How can you expect Randy to read every area newspaper? The Aurora Advertiser can't be found anywhere around Joplin. And its web site is really just a shell. See www.auroraadvertiser.net.
Well, let's see. Randy continually talks about his former days at the Carthage Press...his buddy Hacker works at the Carthage Press, which is owned by GateHouse Media...and people have been leaving information about the purchase of the paper on this blog for about a month now. You would think this "award winning" reporter would make one call and know the answer. Maybe they didn't teach Randy that in Investigative Reporting 101.
If I had been aware that so many people considered the sale of the Aurora Advertiser to GateHouse Media to be the story of the decade, I might have made that call. No offense to those of you who were waiting breathlessly for this story, but while I have an interest in it, it is not really anything earthshaking. As for investigative reporting, you can be the judge of what constitutes investigative reporting, but most people with any common sense at all can see that a considerable amount of investigative reporting takes place on this blog. If you don't think that is the case, why keep coming back for more?
The Aurora Advertiser can't be found anywhere but Aurora as far as I know.
Randy does some great investigating. I'd like to know more about what's going on at Missouri State. I smell a stinking rat. I think the Cron case has a filthy underbelly and I think we only know the tip of the iceberg. A 30 some odd page report from the arbitrator? What else did it say???
