Trustee: Lamar Grain owners trying to pull a fast one

Claims by members of the Ellis family that Lamar Grain and Feed and Lamar Feed and Grain are separate companies are attempts to deceive, the bankruptcy trustee said in a document filed today in U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri.
The claims were made by the companies in court documents filed last week. The documents were filed in response to the trustee's successful attempt to schedule a 2004 examination, in which the books of both companies will be reviewed.
"Lamar Feed and Grain LLC has no standing to object to the 2004 examination of Lamar Feed and Grain," today's document said. "Indeed, both entities are owned and operated by the same individuals. The confusion between Lamar Feed & Grain and Lamar Grain & Feed was purposeful." The document was filed by Carthage attorney Kevin Checkett on behalf of the trustee, Patricia Brown. The Oct. 9 2004 examination will be held at Checkett's law office.
The document continues, "The trustee has already uncovered transactions between Lamar Feed & Grain and Lamar Grain & Feed which require further investigation.
