Barry County sheriff: Nine-year-old was raped, strangled

According to a story filed by Associated Press, a Barry County Sheriff's Department affidavit indicates nine-year-old Rowan Ford, whose body was found Friday in McDonald County, suffered like no child should ever suffer:

Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly says he has asked the prosecutor to file charges against both suspects.

The sheriff says the affidavit alleges that the girl's stepfather, David Spears, and his friend, Chris Collings, took Rowan Ford from her home late November 2nd or early November 3rd.

Epperly says the affidavit was based in part on a statement from Collings.

It alleges that both men raped the girl and that 1 of them then strangled her with a cord. The sheriff did not say which man used the cord.

The men were arrested last night and had not been charged as of midday today.
