Joplin Globe still has death notices

Death notices have not vanished from the Joplin Globe website as I reported Friday.

Yes, it is true that the link for "death notices" has disappeared from the top of the homepage, but if you take the link to the paid obituaries, wade through those, the tributes, and some advertisements, and you can find a listing of names of those who have died at the bottom of the page.

Click on any of the names, and you can read one brief paragraph about the person.

Cripes, one can almost visualize the sourpuss face you made having to admit maybe you made a mistake. Try it more often. It gets easier.

Unfortunately, this is 2007, not 1907. The Glob -- like most papers anymore -- is owned by a soulless company that demands that money be made.

You might get the suits to admit that maybe it would help generate some goodwill with the readership by making the obits free -- or at least lengthier and more personalized for the free notices they do offer.

Are you going to convince them to give up the money they'd lose by doing so? I doubt it.
