Tax protester files libel suit against Springfield Business Journal

Tax protester Lindsey Springer, no stranger to lawsuits, has filed a libel suit against the Springfield Business Journal.

In the action, which was filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, Springer, a Tulsa, Okla. resident, claims the newspaper, its reporter Matt Wagner, an Internal Revenue Service agent named Bonnie McLeod, and two men, Martin Dingman and Shane Grady, who were indicted for income tax evasion, conspired to libel him by claiming Springer had advised the men not to pay their taxes. The Business Journal ran the article in its Nov. 26 edition.

In his petition, Springer claims the defendants were aware that all he was doing was "promoting public awareness" of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. Springer's contention is that the IRS' Form 1040 does not comply with that act, so Americans do not have to file income tax returns.

The 10th Circuit Court has sanctioned Springer for filing frivolous lawsuits during his ongoing battle with the IRS.
