The Joplin Globe, the same newspaper that considers anything Britney Spears does and Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction as page one stories, has not written anything about former Joplin High School student Asiah Epperson's quest for American Idol glory as far as I can determine.
It was announced during Tuesday night's program that Miss Epperson survived the cut to 50. Tonight, during a program scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Fox 14, we will find out if she makes it to the final 24. Still, I could find no mention of this ongoing saga in Miss Epperson's hometown newspaper...and I cannot recall any other stories about Miss Epperson.
The Globe has been quick to join the tabloid procession when it comes to Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and the like, and their horrific antics...you would think it would want to follow a more positive story about someone from its own backyard who is reaching for her dream on a show that is viewed by more than 20 million people, some of whom (though far fewer all the time) read the Joplin Globe.
