Buck will not call Cardinals games on FSN

I have a longstanding tradition during the summer of watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games on Fox Sports Network or ESPN or Missouri Southern Television, turning down the sound all the way and listening to Mike Shannon and John Rooney on the radio. Before that it was Shannon and Wayne Hagen, the nightmare year with Shannon and Joel Meyers, and at its best Shannon with the great Jack Buck.

The only time I broke away from that tradition last year was during the 10 games Jack Buck's son, Joe Buck, called for Fox Sports Network. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports today that Joe Buck will not be calling those games this season, opting instead to attend Cardinal games as a fan.

The article notes that Buck will continue to work some Cardinal games in his role as lead announcer for the national Fox network, but it won't be quite the same.

So it's back to radio this summer, and while I will miss Joe Buck on Cardinal games, radio is still the best way to hear a ballgame done right.

What a shame... the only way to listen to Cards ball was on the might mox. And with Jack.

Now... what's a guy to do?

Amen to that. I still remember (albeit a bit dimly due to pain medications) 'get well' wishes from my sister in St. Louis being sent to me in the hospital back in '87 during a Cards broadcast. Heaven help us when Mike Shannon retires...
