Gannett promotes former News-Leader editor

Gannett has promoted former Springfield News-Leader Editor Kate Marymont to vice president/Information Center Content.
Ms. Marymont has most recently been executive editor of the Fort Myers, Florida, News-Press:

In her new job in McLean, she said, “I think one of the most critical things is understanding how readers are changing” as newspapers provide information in digital, daily print and niche publications.

The new post is “wildly exciting,” she said, although “It does break my heart to leave here.”

Carol Hudler, president and publisher of The News-Press, said Marymont “has been a great colleague — I couldn’t ask for a better partner.”

Marymont is “a big defender of the First Amendment,” Hudler said. “She always wants to try new things and as a result she’s made a lot of breakthroughs.”

Gannett has awarded her four President's Rings for excellence in News, including a shared award as Editor of the Year in 2004 and a first runner-up award in 2006. The News-Press won a Gannett Gold Medal Award in 2006 under her leadership and last year won the Associated Press Managing Editors Innovator of the Year Award. In the past year, Marymont has headed a task force looking at further digital advances for the Local Information Centers.
