Blunt issues statement on Newton County tornado damage

Gov. Matt Blunt issued the following statements concerning the tornadic storms that hit Newton County earlier tonight:

"Melanie and I offer our thoughts and prayers to the families and friends who lost loved ones in this evening’s tornadoes. Earlier tonight I activated the Emergency Operations Center to ensure that state resources are available to the citizens of Newton County, and we are already providing assistance to the area.
"Times like this always bring out the best in Missourians whose acts of kindness and heroism helps their fellow neighbors during their time of need.
"I will continue to closely monitor this situation to ensure that state resources are ready and available to assist at a moments notice."
