Hunter building up war chest for school board run

Documents on file with the Jasper County Clerk's office indicate Rep. Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, had $12,569.77 in his account at the end of March as he prepares for an April 2009 bid for the Carl Junction R-1 Board of Education.

It was noted in the June 5 Turner Report that Hunter had terminated his Grass Roots for Hunter campaign committee in October. A spokesman for the Missouri Ethics Commission told me Thursday that all money in campaign accounts has to be accounted for when they are terminated...unless it is transferred to a race, such as school board, that does not fall under the supervision of the Ethics Commission.

In the July 2007 disclosure form, Hunter reported $25,224.85 in his account.

I wonder if the CJ R-1 School Board knows they are about to be confronted by someone who will lobby for school vouchers and wants a rather substantial seat ($) at that table!
