Another public defender signs on for accused child killer

Two new public defenders signed on for one of the men accused of the brutal rape and murder of nine-year-old Rowan Ford of Stella.

Newton County Circuit Court documents indicate Charles Moreland and Janice Zembles filed entries of appearance Friday. Ms. Zembles, as noted Friday in The Turner Report, filed a motion for continuance, making it highly unlikely Tuesday's scheduled hearing in Barry County Circuit Court will take place.

Collings, 34, Wheaton, and his friend, David Wesley Spears, 25, Stella, Rowan Ford's stepfather, are charged with first degree murder and forcible rape. Spears' case has been moved to Pulaski County.

Those watching the court system may remember Charles Moreland as one of the attorneys for convicted killer Levi King. He pleaded guilty to killing former restaurant owner Orlie McCool and McCool's daughter-in-law, Laura Dawn McCool, during a burglary at their home near Pineville.
