After months of mud-slinging and ruthless attacks, Republican Congressman Kenny Hulshof last night emerged as the GOP nominee for Governor, ready to continue the same failed policies of the rejected Blunt Administration. Though Hulshof admits to not having a health care plan of his own, he consistently defends and embraces Matt Blunt’s policy to slash coverage for hundreds of thousands of Missourians.
In stark contrast to his opponent, Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Nixon recently unveiled an innovative plan to restore Blunt’s health care cuts, expand access to children, and make health insurance more affordable for Missouri families.
“The choice between Jay Nixon and Kenny Hulshof could not be any clearer,” DGA Chair Gov. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) said. “Jay is the only candidate who has the know-how and vision to affect positive change rather than offering more of the same. The enthusiasm for Jay Nixon is growing, and Missourians are ready to vote him in to our ranks in November.”
DGA Executive Director Nathan Daschle added, “Kenny Hulshof embodies the entrenched Republican establishment that is failing citizens from Missouri to Washington, D.C. Voters are rejecting the George W. Bush, Matt Blunt brand of leadership that’s grounded in incompetence and irresponsibility.”
As Jay Nixon’s positive vision and long record of accomplishments are resonating with Missourians, Hulshof is inheriting a Republican Party deeply divided and reeling from one of the most negative, drawn-out primary battles of the season.
“Democrats long ago began to rally around Jay Nixon because Missourians are hungry for the promising change only he can deliver,” Gov. Manchin said.
Daschle concluded, “After months of in-fighting, the GOP is in an unenviable position. They bear the burden of an unpopular Governor, have a platform that is out of touch with mainstream Missouri, and struggle with massive internal divisions. Missouri wants change, and Jay has the vision, experience, and leadership to turn the state around."

Democratic Governors: Enthusiasm for Nixon is growing
West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, in a news release issued this morning, said enthusiasm for Missouri Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Nixon is growing:
