Former Blunt, Graves contributor to be released from federal prison Friday

Former Congressman Bob Ney, at one time a maximum contributor to Gov. Matt Blunt, will be released from federal prison Friday after serving less than two years for his role in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal:

Ney is the only lawmaker to have been charged in the continuing Abramoff investigation. He once flew with Abramoff to the famed Old Course at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland, and has admitted helping the lobbyist's clients in exchange for campaign contributions, expensive meals and skybox sports tickets. Ney also admitted taking thousands of dollars in gambling chips from an international businessman who sought his help with the State Department.

Ney was one of those who contributed to the last-minute onslaught of advertising that helped lift Matt Blunt past Claire McCaskill in the 2004 governor's race, contributing the then-maximum $1,200 on Oct. 4, 2004. That money was returned to Ney in October 2006, shortly after it was first mentioned in The Turner Report.

Ney also contributed $5,000 to Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves during the 2004 election cycle, as I noted in the Feb 19, 2007, Turner Report.

So we're playing the old Six Degrees of Bob Ney game here?

Or are we just playing the old, throw mud on the wall and see what sticks game?

Receiving a contribution from an individual is hardly guilt by association.
