Wainwright sparkles in Springfield outing

The national baseball experts are counting the St. Louis Cardinals out, but taking three of four from the Marlins and the first two games against the Reds, has moved the team to within one and one half games of Milwaukee for the wild card.
The Cardinals, with Albert Pujols hitting his 25th and 26th home runs of the year and Ryan Ludwick adding number 31 dropped Cincinnati 9-3.

Just as important, Adam Wainwright made his third rehab appearance tonight in Springfield, and allowed only one hit and walked no one in four and two-thirds innings. He may be activated next week. The question now is whether he will be a starter or in the bullpen.

Only a few days, the talk was to move Wainwright into the closer role that he did so well during the 2006 playoffs and World Series. But with Chris Perez looking more and more comfortable in that role, Wainwright may return to the starting rotation.
