Committees place more than $400,000 in Hulshof account

The committee system is alive and well in these post-campaign contribution limit days.

Documents filed today on the Missouri Ethics Commission websites show Congressman Kenny Hulshof received $40,350, consisting of $13,450 contributions from the Platte County Republican Central Committee, the 34th Senatorial District Committee, and the 29th Legislative District Committee.

That total pales in comparison to the more than $400,000 in committee contributions reported by Hulshof in his 30-day after the election report also filed today with the Ethics Commission. Most of the contributions came in the days before Aug. 28 when campaign contribution limits were removed.

Before that time, committees were allowed to contribute $13,450 and an additional $13,450 in an in-kind contribution, with the special interest which really donated the money being almost impossible to trace. Many of the committees will not be filing their next report until Oct. 15.

Hulshof received $1,836,145.30, spent $1,255,461.73, and was left with $1,007,455.79 at the end of the reporting period, according to the filing.
