Globe editorial: Lay off Sarah Palin!

The Joplin Globe Editorial Board, echoing sentiments expressed Tuesday in The Turner Report, lashed out at the national media for its intrusive coverage of the pregnancy of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's daughter:

We’ll spell it out for you: There are legitimate criticisms of Sarah Palin worthy of intense media scrutiny, such as her inexperience in national politics, her short time on the job as governor of Alaska, and her alleged association with a party that pushes Alaska’s secession.

But you want to give all the attention to her pregnant daughter? When did your collective sense of newsworthiness veer so far?

The pregnancy is an issue only to the extent that Sarah Palin issued a public statement about it. But that statement was issued to quash even uglier rumors about another family member.

I support Sarah Palin for Vice-President. I hope every parent in America who has ever had a problem with a teenager votes for her.

Someone said her husband had a DUI at age 22. I hope everyone who ever had a DUI votes for Sarah as well.

Although I agree with Barack Obama that candidate's family should be off limits to the media, I am appalled at the possibility that Sarah Palin could become vice-president, the classic heartbeat away from the Presidency.

God help us all if she and McCain are elected because she is not ready or informed.

Palin is more ready and informe than Barry.

Palin's total political experience comes to four years as a mayor and city councilwoman of a town of about 6,000 and two years as governor of the least populated state in the union. Matt Blunt has more experience than that!
That said, why is the media concentrating on the pregnant 17-year-old daughter? Do they expect Mom to have a chastity belt on Bowser, or whatever her name is? You can teach a kid right from wrong, but he or she will inevitably follow their own path.
