I appreciate the idea that the Globe is taking the beat seriously enough to have a column. My only problem is that there is news on the campaign financing front that takes place between these Sunday columns and should not have to wait a week to appear in the Globe.
Apparently, the Globe is coming around to that way of thinking.
Today's edition features Hadsall's examination of the bounty coming to statewide candidates as a result of the elimination of contribution limits:
Hopefully, someone will re-edit this piece, since at the moment it is riddled with errors:
Candidates for statewide offices iMissouri received more tha$1.1 millioidonations of more tha$5,000 over the Labor Day weekend. The amount pushes the total of such donations made since the repeal of campaigdonatiolimits oAug. 28 to more tha$2.2 million.
A provisioof the law that repealed donatiolimits requires that all donations of $5,000 or more be reported electronically to the Missouri Ethics Commissiowithi48 hours.
Hopefully, this approach to covering campaign finances will be more than just a one-day thing.
