Former EN coach's preliminary hearing set for Oct. 30

The preliminary hearing for former East Newton girls basketball coach Joshua Long, originally scheduled for Oct. 2, has been rescheduled to Oct. 30, according to Newton County Circuit Court records.

The rescheduling was due to a scheduling conflict for Long's attorney, Dee Wampler, Springfield, court records indicate.

Long is charged with three counts of statutory rape.

Long, who had only recently been hired by East Newton, resigned his position after the charges against him became public. He has previously taught and coached in the McDonald County and Carl Junction school districts.

The reason for the scheduling conflict is because Mr. Long probably did not have enough money and Wampler went with other clients who probably had more money.
