Kinder raises more money in one day than Page has during past five weeks

We will soon see if money talks when it comes to state politics.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder has received $873,322.72 in oversized contributions since limits were removed Aug. 28 and on two separate occasions raised more in one day than his Democratic opponent, Dr. Sam Page, has collected during the entire five-week period.

One of those days was Thursday, when a 48-hour report filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission showed Kinder receiving $312,172.72. Dr. Page has collected $302,500 overall.

The 48-hour report shows Kinder received $86,500 from one of billionaire educational voucher supporter Rex Sinquefield's political action committees, Your School, Your Choice, $75,000 from the Missouri State Republican Committee, $50,000 from the Republican State Leadership Committee, Arlington, Va.; and $25,000 apiece from Marilyn Fox, homemaker, St. Louis; and Drury Development, St. Louis.

Other contributions to Kinder were: Julia Kauffman, Mission Hills, Kan., $10,000; Emerson Electric Company, St. Louis, $7,500; 7th District Republican Congressional Committee, Springfield, $13,500; Doug Albrecht, St. Louis, $11,472.72 (in-kind); Kansas City Southern Railroad PAC, $10,000

Kinder's other big-money day came on his first 48-hour report in August, when he raked in $561,150, including $300,000 from members of the Humphreys family of Joplin's TAMKO.

In his latest 48-hour report filed today, Dr. Page records $25,000 in contributions, including $10,000 apiece from Midwest Regional Laborers Political League, Jefferson City; and Glenn Waverly, Vaughan, Ontario, Canada; and $5,000 from Life Sciences Fund of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce PAC.
