127th District committee shuts down; last major act was paying off Rita Hunter's campaign debt

The 127th District Republican Legislative Committee filed termination papers with the Missouri Ethics Commission Friday.

The committee's last major act was a $5,800 contribution to the Friends of Rita Hunter Committee Aug. 16 to help Mrs. Hunter pay off her debts after she lost the Republican primary for Jasper County public administrator to Angie Casavecchia Ashens.

Mrs. Hunter had taken out $10,000 in loans during the final days before the election. The remainder of her debt was paid for by a string of legislative district committees operating out of St. Charles, according to Ethics Commission records, so apparently there was never any danger of Mrs. Hunter going into debt because of her re-election efforts.

Mrs. Hunter is the wife of 127th District State Representative Steve Hunter, whose eight-year tenure ends this week.
