Dayton newspaper: Former Globe editor arranged for girlfriend to get cushy state job

Most of the reporting on Edgar Simpson's one-year tenure as chief of staff for disgraced former Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann, has portrayed Simpson as someone who was in over his head and who failed to take action while everyone around him was acting unethically.

Dayton Daily News statehouse reporter Laura Bischoff dashes that portrait with an item she posted on her blog Tuesday:

(Tomi) Dorris was promoted to lead the peace officers training academy while she was dating Edgar Simpson, Dann’s then chief of staff. The OPOTA Commission had actually recommended hiring someone else but Dann intervened to get Dorris hired.

According to Ms. Bischoff's post, the job paid $105,000 a year. I guess it pays to have a boyfriend in high places.

This explains much about Simpson. He was always hostile and accusatory towards elected officials. His approach was that they were guilty of something it was just a matter of finding out what. Now we know that he is totally corrupt himself. That explains it, he sees the world through corrupt eyes, he knows he would do it wrong and assumes everyone else is the same way. It is sad that for so many years political news in Joplin had to be filtered through “Simpson slime”. Let no one ever forget that he was chosen by Dan Chiodo, encouraged and protected by him for years. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
