News-Leader; Disclosure forms show Blunt living comfortably

A Springfield News-Leader examination of financial disclosure forms shows Seventh District Congressman Roy Blunt, a candidate for U. S. Senate, does not have much to worry about from the country's current financial instability:

Among southwest Missouri House members, Republican Rep. Roy Blunt of Springfield listed the greatest amount of assets -- between $700,000 and $1.7 million.

Most were funds in his son's name and retirement accounts in the name of his wife, Abigail, a lobbyist for Kraft Foods, formerly owned by Altria.

Blunt's own assets included a stock portfolio, 11 acres in Stafford and an investment in Springfield-based Churchill Coffee that together were valued at between $100,000 and $215,000.

In addition to his House salary, Blunt collected $34,262 in retirement from the state of Missouri last year. The couple's financial assets generated between $12,000 and $36,000 in unearned income, but some of that was in retirement accounts.

Abigail Blunt's salary from Altria and Kraft Foods was not required to be reported. The couple also was not required to report the value of their Springfield residence or Washington home.
