Sources tell The Turner Report that former Denver Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith, a Missouri Southern standout in the '90s, is upset with MSSU President Bruce Speck over the process used in hiring athletic director Jared Bruggeman.
Smith has no problem with Bruggeman, but is ticked that men's basketball coach Bobby Corn, a good friend of Smith's, was not at least interviewed for the position, especially considering Corn's years as assistant athletic director. Only two candidates were interviewed.
Reportedly, Corn was never in the running because he dared to question Speck's cost-cutting edict earlier this year that the men's and women's basketball team would travel to games on the same bus.
Apparently, when you question Speck about anything, you are automatically blacklisted.
Though Smith is the biggest name among those who thought Corn at least deserved the courtesy of an interview, he is far from alone.
Once again, Bruce Speck has unnecessarily gone out of his way to make enemies, when just a small amount of tact would have headed off any problems.

The chair of the Search Committee was Dr. Terri Agee, the former interim president.
Maybe she is the one who Robert Corn crossed. Many of us on campus think she continues to run the college for Douglas (notice I didn't say "for the board").
Bruce? He is just a puppet...
In any event, Rod Smith is right. No issue with the new AD but with the process. You just don't disrespect that way a long time, popular internal assistant AD.
It says a lot about those who are running Southern now.
