Long signs no new taxes pledge

Seventh District Congressional candidate Billy Long has become the first candidate to sign the pledge offered by Americans for Tax Reform against raising taxes. From his news release:

“I don’t know what the rest of the candidates are waiting for, but like typical politicians they have to put their finger in the air before they decide if the voters think they are being taxed too much” said Long. “We need a smaller government that does a few things and does them well. I am willing to put my signature where my mouth is.”

Since ATR first sponsored the Pledge in 1986, hundreds of U.S. Representatives, more than fifty U.S. Senators and every successful Republican Presidential candidate have all signed the Pledge. In the 111th Congress, 172 U.S. Representatives and 34 U.S. Senators have taken the Pledge never to raise income taxes.

“I oppose all tax increases,” said Long. “Folks are tired of Washington spending and taxing them silly. I hope that all of my friends in this race will agree with me on the pledge.”

Long is seeking the Republican nomination in Missouri’s Seventh Congressional District.

Long has now proven himself to be a liar trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth. He said earlier that he supports the Fair tax, from the Carthage Press "Long visited with reporters and local residents for about 30 minutes on Tuesday.

He said he would oppose earmarks, higher taxes and bailouts for big business and support efforts to end abortion, smaller government, the “Fair Tax” and term limits."
. The Fair tax contains new taxes. He has now promised opposite things.

I don't know this man, but he made a foolish statement. With all the wild spending going on in Washington, there is no way our reps will have to vote some kind of new taxes...if we weren't in the boat we are today, that would be a different story...no matter how much you don't want new taxes, there will come a day when there will be no choice in a few cases....what we need are people who had made this pledge and kept it in the last year or so...whoever wins all the congressional elections next year better take their swim suits to washington to make it around the town awash in red ink....the town is drowning from this foolish and wreckless spending...just like is happening in Neosho
