Government asks for delay in Ohlsen sentencing

Documents filed today in U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri indicate the government is asking for a delay in the sentencing of Milton Ohlsen on bank fraud and weapons charges.

It was Ohlsen's illegal campaign activities during the 2006 Congressional Democratic primary race between Jeff Smith and Russ Carnahan that have led to guilty pleas on felony obstruction charges by Smith and Steve Brown, and their resignations from the Missouri Senate and House, respectively.

The documents indicate U. S. attorneys will not be available on Wednesday, Sept. 23, when the sentencing is scheduled, and would like to have it pushed back a week.
