News-Leader offers information on latest candidate in Seventh District field

The already crowded GOP race to succeed Roy Blunt as Seventh District Congressman, is a little more crowded.

The Springfield News-Leader takes a look at the latest candidate, Mike Moon of Lawrence County:

Moon, a membership coordinator for St. John's Hospital's fitness centers, said he's fed up with the federal government becoming increasingly large and involved in the economy and people's lives.

"Our country's in a big mess, and I think we need strong leaders in Congress to stand up for what's constitutional," Moon said.

If elected, Moon said he would hold a principled line against government programs that are not specifically defined in the U.S. Constitution.

"If it doesn't fit, I don't think it should be implemented or employed," said Moon.

The three leading candidates at this point appear to be Sen. Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, Springfield auctioneer Billy Long, and Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin.
