Webber: Nodler/Icet letter shows lack of support for teachers

The letter sent by Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, and Rep. Allen Icet, R-Wildwood, saying the Career Ladder program for Missouri teachers is unlikely to be funded for the current school year, is still being criticized by legislators from both parties. The latest is Rep. Stephen Webber, D-Columbia:

Webber said today the letter was a unilateral move by Icet and Nodler. “It’s something that nobody else was even talking about, so it’s not clear that we do need to cut it,” Webber said. “This was being singled out not so much because it was necessary for budget cuts, but because people were philosophically opposed to the idea of supporting public school teachers.”

that's the whole idea...nobody was talking about it....someone needed to get it out in the open instead of waiting for something to be slid by in the dark of night.

Rep. Webber looks like a fool to imply that it shouldn't have been even talked about.
