Long raises more than $125,000 in fourth quarter

The following news release was issued this morning by Billy Long's Congressional campaign team:

Billy Long for Congress announced it raised $126,816 from 207 supporters in the Fourth Quarter of 2009 which ended December 31. The campaign’s flush war chest grew to $478,641.

Billy Long, the conservative businessman, continues to lead his Republican primary opponents in cash raised and cash on hand.

“Voters in southwest Missouri are sending a clear signal that they are tired of politics as usual. This election is about sending someone to Washington, D.C., who will stand up for our conservative ideals, not the same old politicians who created the mess we are in now,” stated campaign spokesman Curtis Trent.

Reports for the fourth quarter are due on January 31st with the Federal Election Commission.

Mr. Long and the other candidates are all out raising money...for what?

I have no club who Mr. Long is or what he stands for...I don't know where he lives, what he does for a living, how he feels about issues he might face in Washington....

I'm not sure I would be crowing about my fundraising when people in the district haven't a clue about me.

Maybe he needs to start spending so people such as I can have an idea about whether he's the one to support.

This is true of them all...I do know one of these candidates and have spoken face to face many times, but I know nothing about the others.

It truly saddens me to think this man may actually win and become my congressman.

What are you talking about? Saddens you? HUH? What has Noddler done for SWMO? He's a career politician. Billy is a business owner, billy build a business actually two businesses from NOTHING! Billy had to meet financial obligations meaning employees! Lets send someone who has ran a business. Billy stands for the working man and woman.

Its not that I dislike Long, in fact it is quite the opposite. He is very amiable and has built a very successful business. However, my fear is that Long will be "blindsided" by the legislative process. Not to mention, 7th District has become accustomed to electing poised and statesmanlike representatives (Taylor, Hancock, Blunt)they can be proud of. In my mind Long does not fit the mold. Nodler or Goodman (preferably Goodman) seem more educated, statesmanlike, and more ready to hit the ground running.

Statesman? Don't you think that's the problem with Washington today! We have too many statesmanlike folks running congress. I'm ready for change! I'm tired of porkfilled statesman! We need change in America today! I'm tired of stateman that have never been in the real world meeting payrolls. Do they know what its like to layoff ten employees because our taxes are through the roof, or we might have to shut down our business. NO! They are career politicians and don't get it. Billy Long is a business man he build a business from scratch with no help. He worked long hours toiling in the trenches.

I really believe Billy won't be changed. I trust him.

reading the comments that are posted, I am beginning to get a picture of Mr. Long....and he didn't spend a dime to paint it....not sure I like the art though....need to learn more..about them all

First line in his responses are against an opposition candidate.... that's too, too bad...sounds like another politician I know...criticize and then blame it on someone else

What has Nodler done for SWMO? Gosh, let's see.

Worked as Gene Taylor's district assistant to lay the groundwork to get the Gene Taylor Clinic in Mt. Vernon as an outpatient clinic to serve thousands of veterans; the Gene Taylor Post Office in Springfield (and other facilities in other communities) to modernize the postal operations; helped with the efforts to upgrade the federal fish hatchery in Neosho which created jobs and makes trout available for stocking programs throughout the nation; and basically worked 20 years helping people connect with government programs and departments to meet their needs and solve problems; and, as chairman of the Mo Senate Appropriations committee got specific building projects on the MSU and MSSU campuses; funding for the Jordan Valley Health Clinic in Springfield serving thousand of uninsured and under insured families; helped fund a cooperative engineering program between MSU and Rolla; got funding for a dental training program for MSSU; and as Chamber of Commerce Executive in Monett worked with the area businesses to expand manufacturing capacity creating jobs for men and women and greatly expanded the number and role of the chamber in working with the community; and, as SBA Regional Administrator worked to provide guaranteed loans through basically every community and independent bank in a 4-state area for farmers, businesses and other entities to either stay in business or expand business, again, creating jobs. I could go on but what's the use? You've already made up your mind. Nodler's career path and work may not be much by your standards but Mr. Nodler has proven that public service by the right person can make a difference. How do I know these things? He has helped me and my employers(2) during his career and I've studied his record. Not hard to do.

It's kind of like people's varied opinions of Randy Turner. His past and present journalistic work and classroom work is important and sometimes not appreciated by some.

Basically Billy has been a successful auctioneer and realtor, two noble professions, selling people out at ten cents on the dollar to the highest bidder.

All of the candidates interested in the GOP nomination have a story to tell and a career path to this point in time. I'm glad we've got so many options to consider. Aren't you?

I appreciate 8:28 PM's information on Mr. Long. Now I would like to know what we might expect from him should he win...what kind of legislator he is likely to be. Mr. Nodler has wide experience in politics and government and his record is easy to find and study....I need for the others to speak up and tell me how they will get things done or how they will use their position and influence.

So far just Nodler and Long are be discussed. I've heard enough on them. I wanna know what people think of the other candidates...Goodman, Moore, et al.
