John Hacker and the staff at The Carthage Press provided a wonderful tribute to the late Marvin VanGilder in Tuesday's issue.
The cover featured a full-page photo of Mr. VanGilder with a large headline "Goodbye, Old Friend," and a simple "Marvin VanGilder 1926-2010."
The inside coverage included the first part of a history Mr. VanGilder had written of his own life, the news story on his death, the obituary and personal columns, one written by John Hacker and the one which I wrote two days ago.
It was a fitting tribute to someone who played such a key role in the history of The Carthage Press and in preserving the history of Carthage.
