Nodler: No one more responsible for preserving history than VanGilder

Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, a candidate for Seventh District Congress, opened his three-minute speech at the Lincoln Ladies Ice Cream Social in Carthage with a tribute to historian/journalist Marvin VanGilder, who died Sunday night. For many of the audience, it was the first they had heard of Mr. VanGilder's passing:

"No one is more responsible for historic preservation than Marvin VanGilder," Nodler said. He asked the more than 300 who were jammed into Memorial Hall to stand and offer a moment of silence.

During the political portion of his presentation, Nodler ripped into President Obama, saying he needs to be replaced "as soon as possible."
