McCaskill: Legislation will help address problems at Arlington National Cemetery

In her latest newsletter, Sen. Claire McCaskill talks about legislation designed to fix the problems at Arlington National Cemetery:

I am outraged at the problems that continue to surface at Arlington National Cemetery. If you haven't seen the most recent news about even more improperly marked graves, click here.

Families who have loved ones buried at Arlington National Cemetery deserve so much better than this. These are our heroes. This is the most sacred ground we have in the United States. We've got to make sure we get this right.

That's why I'm proud that my legislation to help remedy problems at Arlington won passage in the Senate last weekend. For details of the legislation, click here.

After convening and chairing a Senate hearing in July on this matter, I made a promise to the American public and to the families of those brave men and women buried at Arlington that the hearing would not be the end of Congressional oversight of this problem. I'm confident that the Army is taking the issue very seriously, but this legislation will help hold officials at Arlington accountable as they identify and fix any errors in the burial records, change the way they manage contracts and undertake efforts to reach out to families who are suffering from this unnecessary heartbreak.
