Joplin historic district, Powell bridge possibilities for National Register of Historic Places

The Main and Eighth Street Historic District in Joplin and the Powell Bridge in McDonald County are among 11 places that will be considered for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places during a meeting Friday morning in Jefferson City. From the news release:

The Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will consider nominations to the National Register of Historic Places during its quarterly meeting Feb. 18 in Jefferson City. The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 9 a.m. in the Missouri State Museum Riverside Collections Facility at 117 Riverside Dr. (intersection of Riverside and Riviera) in Jefferson City.


The council will consider eleven nominations for the National Register. Properties on the agenda include historic residences, commercial buildings, historic districts and a bridge. The nominated properties under consideration are listed below:

Main and Eighth Streets Historic District, portions of the 800 and 900 block of South Main Street, Joplin, Jasper County.

Powell Bridge, southwest of Powell, McDonald County.

Mount Zion Lodge Masonic Temple, 304 E. Main Street, West Plains, Howell County.

Locust Street Apartments, 3421 and 3425 Locust St., Kansas City, Jackson County.

Lee’s Summit Christian Church Building, 401 Douglas, Lee’s Summit, Jackson County.

Southeast Grand Avenue and Fifth Street Residential Historic District, Lee’s Summit, Jackson County.

G and G Veterinary Hospital, 711 West Main Street, Sedalia, Pettis County.

Heard, John T., House, 200 West Broadway, Sedalia, Pettis County.

5561-71 Chamberlain Apartments, 5561-71 Chamberlain, St. Louis.

Hamilton Hotel, 956 Hamilton Avenue, St. Louis.
