McCaskill: Stop GOP war on working families

In a release issued today, Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. said Missouri is following the same anti-worker sentiment currently prevalent in Wisconsin and other states:
First they hit Wisconsin, then Ohio and Indiana. Now the Republicans’ war on working families has come to Missouri.

Last week the Missouri State House voted to lower the minimum wage by repealing a massively popular, voter-approved initiative that linked minimum wage increases to inflation.

That’s like taking a 2x4 to Missouri working families. We need to draw a line in the sand now as the bill moves to the State Senate.

Use our online tool to contact your state senator now and tell them: respect Missouri voters and Missouri values -- vote against the Republican repeal of minimum wage protections.

The initiative that State House Republicans voted to repeal passed in 2006 with 76% of the vote -- it was hugely popular. 1.6 million Missourians supported linking minimum wage increases to inflation because it’s the fair thing to do: when prices rise, working families’ wages should rise accordingly.

Now -- just five years later -- Republicans have made it clear they’re more interested in pleasing multimillionaires than protecting minimum wage earners. We can’t let them get a foothold on this issue here in Missouri.

Show them Missouri won’t tolerate a war on working families. Make your voice heard by emailing your state senator now. Ask them to stop this attack on the minimum wage.

Together, we can stop this war against working families. And we can start here in Missouri.
