Joplin tornado fatality count up to 139

Search and Rescue continues. Working with search dog teams. Over 400 volunteers and over 50 dog teams working today.

Fatality Count: 139

Animal Adoption and Resource Center, the Humane Society of Missouri (ASPCA) reunited

121 animals with their owners and retrieved 464 animals to date.

All residents affected by storm should register with FEMA. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) has announced that individuals and business owners whose property has been damaged as a result of the tornado can now apply for assistance in one of three ways:

1) Call 800-621-FEMA (3362)

2) Register online at www.disasterassistance.gov

3) By smart phone at m.FEMA.gov

Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) open 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at 4th & Byers and also at MSSU’s Taylor Performing Arts Center. FEMA representatives are available to visit with residents.

Multiple Resource Agency Center is open at The Bridge starting Sunday after President Obama’s visit.

· Please separate debris into these six categories:

1. Electronics – Television, computer, stereo, phone, dvd player.

2. Large Appliances – Refrigerator, washer/dryer, air conditioner, stove, water heater, dishwasher, microwave (do not leave doors unsealed or unsecured).

3. Hazardous Waste – Oil, batteries, pesticide, paint, cleaning supplies, compressed gas.

4. Vegetative debris – Tree branches, leaves, logs, plants.

5. Construction debris – Building materials, drywall, lumber, carpet, furniture, plumbing, siding.

6. Household garbage – Bagged garbage, discarded food, paper, packaging, clothing.

· Debris should be placed curbside.

· Debris should not block roadway or driveways.

· If possible, do not place debris near or on trees, poles or other structures, this includes fire hydrants and meters. Doing so makes removal more difficult.

· Debris should be cut into manageable and stackable sizes.

The Joplin Municipal Court (JMC) will be closed from May the 30th through June the 3rd. Individuals seeking information on their next court date may contact JMC at 417-624-0820 ext. 230. Their office hours are 8 am to 5 pm.
